The Sinister Urge by Frances Newton - Review

I received a free ecopy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

According to the description of this short novel, I thought I would be reading about romantic feelings between two members of a broken up band, who are brought back together to act as guest judges on a reality tv show. Turns out that's actually a bit misleading because it mostly seems to be about the incestuous relationship between two siblings.

I gave up about halfway through. It just wasn't for me. Aside from relatively graphic scenes of incest, what I read of the story needed work in everything from perspective to verb tense. The awkward method of jumping back and forth between past and present could have been handled in a much better way, too. I also wondered what's going on with the spaceship which breaks up the scenes between past and present. The story is not set in space and the characters aren't aliens. In fact, it didn't seem to have anything to do with the story at all, but then again I only read the first half before I gave up with a headache.

By the way, here is the racier version of the cover:

I attempted to read this ebook on February 6, 2015 and my review is also on Goodreads.
